FAQs

It is estimated that around 85% of the jobs that today’s learners will be doing in 2030 haven’t been invented yet. This makes the famous prediction that 65% of grade school kids will end up in jobs that haven’t yet been created seem conservative in comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

Shiminly accepts students in grades 1-12. Students can start at any grade level and they do not have to have completed the Shiminly program in previous years.

Each Shiminly lesson is 60 minutes long, including time for dismissal and any associated cleanup.

With over 100 unique topics in our 7 competencies, Shiminly students will explore a variety of fascinating disciplines and over 200 different universal skills.

When signed up through a participating school, students take a test prior to the start of every new level. This ensures they are on track to best benefit from the material in each level.

At the end of every course, students are assessed on course content. Each test examines skills in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. These assessments are for evaluative and summative purposes only; their performance has no consequences. (Students signing up directly don’t need to do our pre and post Assessments).

Most Shiminly students need only a pencil and a notebook! If Shiminly Sessions students have access to a printer, that would be wonderful, but their participation is not dependent on it.

Yes! Shiminly courses are designed in such a way that you may start at any time of the year.
Shiminly classes are taught entirely in English by international teachers. Shiminly does not currently offer courses in other languages, although we do explore linguistics as a topic in several lessons.
Virtual learning allows for greater flexibility and more opportunities for self-paced learning. Interacting through a virtual platform improves collaboration and communication skills and helps students develop digital literacy and citizenship abilities throughout the learning process. It is also beneficial for developing self-motivation. You can find more information about virtual learning and its advantages at our Resources Page.
Yes. All our teachers possess official teaching certifications from accredited educational institutions.
We don’t have a physical location because our program was designed to be a virtual course for global citizens. That means we want to be everywhere—and that’s easier to do online!

We recommend having a conversation with  them prior to the process in which you solicit their feelings, opinions, desires, and concerns about learning. Discuss their goals and how you see Shiminly as an opportunity for achieving them. Present this as a fun way to spend time, not as a hardcore study experience!

Shiminly Sessions students must have access to a webcam and microphone, in addition to a desktop or laptop computer. We recommend a wired internet connection over wi-fi, to minimize connection stability issues. Your child’s device and their internet connection must be compatible with our platform.

System Requirements:

  • PDF reader
  • Graphic and audio output capability
  • Broadband internet connection with a minimum speed of 5 Mbps

Yes. Our platform is safe. At the same time, we do not recommend leaving your children completely unsupervised during their lessons, depending on their age. We request that someone stays in the same room during Shiminly classes.

You can cancel up to 48 hours before the start of the summer program.

You will have 15 minutes to join a class after it begins. If you miss a class, we will put you in another class subject to availability.

Institutions and homeroom teachers

Many, if not most Shiminly lessons are focused on improving interpersonal communication and shaping learners into responsible, caring, altruistic members of their communities on every level. In addition to the socio-emotional benefits of our program, students will be introduced to the world at large, building maturity and sophistication. Shiminly also has numerous opportunities for project-based learning that entire schools are welcome to join!

Contact Shiminly Curriculum Services for more information about how one Shimin lesson can galvanize an entire student body.

Shiminly has numerous academic and emotional benefits that can improve test performance. Students review and learn about fascinating academic topics, which students can understand more fully due to our unique hands-on approach. Shiminly classes also build confidence and help students reduce anxiety by helping them develop familiarity with new and difficult ideas, as well as giving them a practical toolkit of physical and emotional management techniques.

In short, Shiminly makes everything a little less scary, and students grow in their confidence to take on new challenges.

All Shiminly classes must be observed by a homeroom teacher.

You will have a contact person.

In general, you will need a strong internet connection, a webcam that can show the whole classroom at once, a whiteboard or blackboard, and speakers. Your classroom computer and internet connection must be able to work with our platform.

In order to reap the full benefits of the Shiminly experience, each child will need access to their own laptop. Particularly if your children are at different levels of academic or English competency, they will need their own space to learn in the way that is best for them! We also find private students have better focus when working alone, as opposed to the excitement and distraction of another child’s presence.

Unless your child has behavioral, disciplinary, or physical needs that require adult intervention, we recommend that all learners take lessons without parental involvement. However, we do ask that a parent remain in the room to observe their child and handle any discipline issues that arise. You will have plenty of chances to admire your child’s work and to collaborate with them on homework assignments throughout the course. Parents also receive detailed feedback about their child’s performance, triumphs, and areas for growth after every lesson, so you’ll never feel like you’re missing out.
